Phacelia congesta

Common name: Blue curls, spiderflower, phacelia, caterpillars
Family: Boranginaceae 
Subfamily: Hydrophyllaceae
Size: up to 1 meter long
Description: Upright, leafy, breaks easily, likes sun and shade, hairy
Habitat: Various soils




























































Flower:
  • 1 cm across
  • 5 petals, blue to blue-violet, united at the base
  • stamens 5, protruding from flower
  • Flowers numerous in coiled clusters that uncurl as buds develop



















Leaves and stem:
  • 10 cm long leaves, wide, alternate, deeply cut, toothed lobes 
  • Stem brittle, branched in upper portion
