Tinantia anomala

Common name: False Dayflower
Family: Commelinaceae-  Spiderwort family
Size: Up to 60 cm tall

Description: Upright, spreads over the ground, grow together in groups
Habitat:  Moist, shaded sand






















Flower:
  • 3.8 cm across
  • 3 petals, 2 petals lavender-blue to purple, lower white, very small petal usually hidden
  • 6 stamens: 3 upright stamens, bearded with yellow and blue hairs. Outer stamens curved outward. Pistil similar to central stamen.
  • Several flower in a terminal cluster 
  • A leaf like bract envelops the cluster of flowers
  • Flowers close by noon


























Leaves and stem:
  • Up to 10 cm long
  • Margins entire
  • Stalked basal leaves
  • Upward stems are smaller, clasping stem
  • Stems few to several
